Course Overview

Course Description

Power BI for the Business Analyst Online is a structured, online training course that will help you learn reporting with Power BI, cleaning and preparing your data with Power Query and writing DAX formulas (DAX is the data modeling language of Power BI).

It is created and delivered by world-renowned Power BI and DAX expert, Microsoft MVP (Power BI) for 6 consecutive years, author of the best selling book Supercharge Power BI, and trainer Matt Allington.

Power BI for the Business Analyst Online Training consists of:

  • Viewing the online videos (recorded by Matt Allington) to learn the content with examples, demos, and practice exercises.
  • Attending bi-weekly (every 2 weeks) live online Q&A calls (1 hour) with Jason Cockington (an MCSA in BI Reporting, Microsoft Certified Trainer and Power BI Senior Consultant)
  • Extension reading and practicing the exercises from either of Matt Allington’s books, Supercharge Power BI or Supercharge Excel. (A free digital copy of both books is included in your registration.)
SCPBI 3rd Edition
Cover of Supercharge Excel

It is recommended you view the videos and complete the practice exercises and then prepare any questions you have prior to the Q&A call. You can email your questions along with any workbooks used and those questions will be taken up during the Q&A call.

One of the benefits of this style of learning is you get to listen to all the discussion and questions from all the other participants. The Q&A calls are recorded, and the recordings are shared with you after each call. You can download the recordings of the live online Q&A calls and keep them for later reference.

Power BI for the Business Analyst Online is built on an annual subscription format. Your registration comes with 12 months of access to the course materials, so you can refer back to the videos whenever you like. Even after the semester is complete, you will continue to have access to all of the course materials, the online support forum, and future semester Q&A calls. Read more about this in the Frequently Asked Questions section below.

I like the self-paced, easily digestible size, course content as well as the live Q&A to ask questions (Jason has been great). I really appreciate the clean training interface. Less clutter = less distraction = better learning. Really love your training. I took Ken’s BI Boot Camp, and am scheduled to take a little deeper dive with Matt’s Supercharge BI course. Will then spend several months trying to create and break as many models as I can. Then be back for Demystifying DAX. Thanks again for all the time and energy you all put into these training modules!

  2. Joe Lee (verified owner)

I liked the Q&A calls with Jason. Big thank you! 🙂

  3. suzie arnold (verified owner)

Great overview of Power BI. Loved the way that Matt explained and made it easy to understand. Love that this course also offers weekly drop in sessions where you can ask questions.

  4. Yash Kaushal (verified owner)

I liked that it was hands-on

  5. Khassey Marc Akpoé (verified owner)

I liked the course’s shortness and clarity.

  6. Benjamen (verified owner)

I liked learning how to create visuals and the importance of table relationships. The final lesson on new field parameters uses a different database from earlier lessons with different measures created (total cost, total margin). To get the same experience from the lesson I had to stop and create the measures again. Not a big deal, just not seamless. I love the Skillwave courses. Not sure how successful I’ll be applying what was learned about Power BI, but I’ve been tremendously successful applying what was learned from the Power Query course. Fingers crossed!

  7. Vivian T (verified owner)

The class is simple to follow and full of tips/tricks not found anywhere.

  8. Lindsay R. (verified owner)

I liked that the lessons were available to me to come back and review as many times as I wanted and that I could speed them up or slow them down as needed. I also like the level of detail provided for the lessons.

  9. Marc E. (verified owner)

Going over each Power BI topic in a natural progression allowed me to gain valuable insight into key considerations and best practices for using the tool. I also really enjoyed having the data sample set to explore & exercise with, and that you can go back into specific topics and review each lesson. Finally, I appreciate how current (up to date with recent releases) the content is, and that there is a medium for regular Q&A’s.
